Important information for English-speaking users

Dear user!

Welcome to the Cologne University Archives!

In case you need only general information about our holdings or shelf-marks of single files, you may send your enquiry in English. In these cases we will will be pleased to answer in English, too. Please note, however, that there is no legal entitlement to this!

You can reach us via the contact form on this page regardless of our opening hours and conveniently from your computer! You will receive a response from us by e-mail. Please make sure to enter your postal and e-mail address correctly, otherwise we will not be able to deliver the response to you.

Furthermore, the archives' staff cannot undertake research for you. Our answers are strictly limited to general information and the indication of shelf marks. In case you need information from the contents, we will be pleased to welcome you as our visitor. As the archive has no reproduction facilities, we cannot provide scans or copies. In this case, please register for this at least one week in advance via contact form on this page or at historisches-archiv(at)uni-koeln(dot)de. Unregistered use is generally not possible.

Opening hours of the specila collection reading room see here.

According to the German Administrative Procedures Acts, any legally significant application must be submitted in German. Examples of such procedures include the shortening of statutory blocking periods, enquiries about diplomas or information on citizenship matters. In these cases, the archive's decisions will be issued in German as well.

Please notice: The verification of times of study or of degrees in the context of applications does strictly NOT fall into the archive's tasks. All such enquiries will be therefore dismissed with no exception. We cannot supply copies of lost certificates and diplomas.
